The Tie That Bonds Chapter 27
Heero looked down at the two guards walking under him. He didn't want to confront anyone unless he had to. . .there was no sense in using his energy or wasting time by fighting someone that wasn't the true enemy. He was on the fourth sub level of the research center that he knew well. . .better than he wanted to know. Unless they changed everything, which was a possibility, the main computer should be on this level. If it wasn't, he would just have to search the entire vicinity. It would be through the main computer that he would learn when all of his targets would be together. It would be much easier and the percentage of success would be higher if he destroyed all three at the same time. Once the guards passed and rounded the corner, he dropped to the ground and continued toward the room that once held the computer. As he moved, he kept in mind how much time he would have until the security systems would return to normal. While pushing the door open, he had a feeling that the room held a trap. If it did, and he was caught, he still held a backup plan. The room was pitch black before a spotlight flicked on to expose Trowa hanging from the ceiling by a chain and shackles. It was clear from the image that the Latin had taken quite a beating from the enemy. At first, Heero believed that it was his lover, but after taking a couple of steps into the room, he realized that it was only a hologram. Just as he started to leave, a screen turned on to his left. "We expected you ten minutes ago. . .all well. I suppose better late than never." The man chuckled. Though Heero had never seen him before, somehow he knew that it was the president of the organization. "I guess over time you have become softer and slower. Here's the deal Heero. We'll agree to let Trowa go, unharmed, and perfectly safe if you bring us the child and surrender yourself." "You're not getting Mia. I will kill you first." The Japanese man informed and clutched his fist tightly. At that moment, the entire building shook as if an Earthquake suddenly emerged. Sirens began blaring as a mechanical voice began announcing an intruder. The screen in the room dimmed before flicking off. Heero pushed a button on the device in his ear quickly as he emerged into the hall that he had just come from. "Duo, what's going on out there?" "It's Mia." Duo's voice was crackling. "She's entering the building." "Stop her. Something isn't right here." "I know, and she's the cause." "What?" "Heero, this isn't the little girl you left crying in the hall." Duo informed. "She's floating and has no eyes. She just ripped a twenty foot fence out of the ground without touching it." Trowa slowly opened his eyes and was greeted by eminence pain. He didn't think about it long as he noticed the two men that were rapidly collecting things from the drawers of their desk and stuffing them into briefcases. The sirens wailing did nothing for his pounding head as he tried to wiggle from the shackles encircling his wrist. "I knew this was a bad ideal." One of the men stated bluntly as he locked his briefcase. "This is just a minor set back. We can still over come this." "She's tearing up the research center. We can't rebuild from that." "No, but we still have him." At that, the two men looked over at Trowa. "We can still ransom him for the girl. So not everything is lost." At that moment, the door to the office was flung open. The windows shook vehemently before shattering among the three men. The two that weren't restrained ducked under furniture to shield themselves from the rain of shards. Trowa attempted to turn from it, but he could feel the jagged pieces ripping and tearing into his bare flesh. When he looked again, he noticed Mia floating before him. She seemed intent on the two men that were huddling in fear. She then turned toward Trowa. Trowa wasn't sure what to make of the teenager as she stared at him. Suddenly, the shackles of his wrist were freed and he fell to the carpet floor on his knees. His green eyes couldn't tear from the girl. Slowly, she floated over to her guardian and lightly landed on her feet to kneel before him. "Mia, what happened?" "Are you all right?" "Yeah." Seizing the moment, the two men ran from the room in terror. "Where's Heero?" "I don't know." "Get out of here Trowa. Duo is outside waiting like I told him." "Mia." "Go." With that, she stood and Trowa was lifted from the floor. His green eyes widen in surprise as he was flung through the broken windows and hurled outside, only to land safely on the ground next to Duo. The American looked at the Latin in confusion. "What the hell was that?" "I have no ideal." "Heero, can you still hear me?" Duo asked and Trowa noticed the device on his friend's ear. "Yeah. What's up?" "I got Trowa out here with me. Mia's on the top floor, and there's a helicopter heading for the roof. Think you can make it?" "I'm almost there." Heero announced as he continued running up the stairs. Since the alarms sounded, it seemed that the building lost a lot of electricity. The elevators weren't working. Though he didn't doubt that Mia could take care of herself in her new form, he worried for her. He had to make sure that she was all right. He was two flights from the roof, when the door leading to the top floor shied into the stairwell. The Japanese man ducked to miss a direct hit, and was greeted by a strong sense of power. He turned around to find Mia floating from the threshold into the stair well. "Mia." She stopped and looked down at her father. "Leave this to me. You don't have to do anything. Just get out of here before the entire building collapse." With that, she looked up and drifted toward the roof. Ignoring the words, Heero continued after his daughter. He wasn't sure why, but he felt he needed to protect her. As he emerged onto the roof top, he was greeted with strong winds from the propellers of a helicopter. Shielding himself from the gust, he could see two men trying to board the escape route. Mia was closing in on them, but was blind to the person standing waiting behind her. Heero instantly recognized the girl as Jessica. "Mia!" The warning was too late as her best friend slammed the side of her hand into Mia's neck, causing her body to limp. A smile plagued the men's face as they jumped from the helicopter and scooped the teenager into his arms. Heero barreled after them, not wanting to lose Mia. "Stop him." The man informed Jessica, at the same time, someone else jumped from the helicopter. It was the boy that was introduced as Yuji. Suddenly, the fact that they were able to live in peace made since to Heero. Jessica had been keeping a close watch over them for the pass ten years. As Heero advanced toward the helicopter, both Yuji, and Jessica began attacking as a tag team. Heero fended them off well, but his eyes were glued to his daughter as the door was closed and the helicopter started to take flight. He ran toward the two assailants, as they attempted to perform a karate chop and kick. Not wanting to risk losing the men, Heero grabbed Yuji's leg and spun him around to smash into Jessica. As the two tried to regain their footing, Heero ran after the helicopter. Just as it was leaving the roof, he jumped and snagged the runner. He started to pull himself to the main part of the air craft, when a bullet whizzed through the air and struck metal, nearly missing his hand. He looked down to find that Jessica and Yuji were attempting to shoot him. Holding on with one arm, he quickly pulled his gun and aimed at the kids. His first shot claimed Jessica's shoulder. Before he could shoot again, Yuji's bullet planted itself firmly into Heero's leg. Cringing in pain, he forced himself to keep his hold and fired again. This time, he managed to hit Yuji in the knee. With both teenagers distracted by their own pain, Heero attempted to replace his gun, but it had slipped from his grasp as the pain in his leg flared again. He pulled himself up, and managed to stand on the runner. He then began punching at one of the windows. He could see the men inside clearly, as well as Mia. Once the window was broken, he allowed himself into the vehicle. Mia slowly opened her eyes to witness her father fighting two men. She looked around, wondering where she was and how she had gotten there. The last thing she could remember was crying for Heero to stay with her. She wondered if the two men fighting with her father were the same ones that had kidnapped Trowa. Suddenly, one pulled a gun from a compartment in the helicopter wall. He aimed at Heero and prepared to fire, but Mia jumped to her feet and punched the man as hard as she could. She then grabbed his wrist, and before she knew what she was doing, she had snapped it back, breaking it; and causing him to drop the gun. She then planted her knee into the man's groin. When he doubled over to clutch himself, she slammed her cupped hands over the back of the man's neck. He fell to the ground in a lump as Mia's eyes returned to the fight before her. The second person shared the same condition as his partner. Heero stood straight and looked back at Mia with stern eyes. There was a certain air shrouding the Japanese man that Mia had never experienced before. In truth, the stance scared her. At that moment, the helicopter started to vibrate violently. Heero ran toward the cockpit to find that the pilot had abandoned the controls. The controls were set to auto pilot. Heero sat in the seat and attempted to over ride the command. Mia, stood behind him, watching him intently. Sensing that something wasn't right, Mia turned around to find the man that she had attacked standing behind them. His gun was poised at the back of Heero's head. "You've caused enough damage for a life time." The man sneered and pulled the trigger. At the last second, Heero slumped in the seat, and the bullet landed firmly into the control panel, causing sparks to fly everywhere. Taking advantage of the stun man's state, Heero flipped backward over the seat and planted his foot in the man's throat. Once he recovered the gun, he fired two shots. One for each life of the scientist. Mia stared at Heero in disbelief as he dropped the gun and returned to the panel. "You killed them." She said in shock, still unable to believe that the man before her was the same one that she had been living with her entire life. Heero didn't respond as he realized that the bullet had completely destroyed the chance of gaining control of the helicopter; which was rapidly losing altitude. Pushing from the seat, he began searching the cockpit. "What are you doing?" As she asked, he found what he was looking for. . .a parachute. Staring deeply into her colbat eyes, he strapped the parachute onto his daughter. She suddenly understood what was going on. "Where's yours?" "I'll find one once I know you're safe." "Can't we use the same one?" "I would weight you down." He seized her arm and dragged her back into the cargo area of the helicopter. Holding tightly to her, he slid open the door. "After you jump from here, count to ten and pull this." He indicated the strap that would release the parachute. "I'm not going without you." She stated. "Don't worry about me." "I won't go." "Mia, don't argue with me." "I want you to be part of my life. Is that so wrong?" Heero's eyes soften as he hugged her closely. Mia returned the embrace by holding him just as tightly. "I need you to take care of Trowa." "What?" She looked up to meet his eyes. "Give him a reason to live Mia." With that, he kissed her forehead and pushed her out. Her eyes widen in fear as she realized what he had done. Tears burned the blue orbs as she stared up at the Japanese man, and in a split second her life with him flashed before her eyes. All their arguments; winters spent having snowball fights; holding her after a nightmare; wiping her tears every time she cried. . .she even remembered things that she had long since forgotten. Tears spilled from Heero's eyes as he waited for the
parachute to open. Once he witnessed it, he returned to searching
for one for himself. . .however, there wasn't any other ones. As Mia
flowed safely to the ground, she waited for the figure to emerge from
the rapidly descending death craft. The closer it came to the ground,
the greater her fear became. She watched in horror as the helicopter
crashed in a corn field several hundred yards away.
